Saturday, October 12, 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm (Workshop)
In this introductory workshop, we will explore the essential theory of Yin Yoga and Mindfulness Meditation, followed by an experiential practice to deepen your understanding.
What is Yin Yoga?
Yin Yoga is a complementary approach to the physical postures (asanas) characterized by slow and static stresses, relaxed musculature, and longer duration holds. The intentions of a Yin practice are to stimulate, strengthen, and revive tissues of the body not normally emphasized to the same degree in more active styles of yoga practice and exercise.
In Yin Yoga, floor postures are held passively for several minutes in order to safely and positively “stress” the connective tissues (ligaments, tendons, and fascia) that wrap our muscles and make up our joint capsules, in proper target areas of the body. Physically, the change these stresses create restores and maintains the natural mobility of the joints, promoting ease, fluidity and grace in the body. Energetically, Yin Yoga stimulates the body’s meridian system, harmonizing the flow of chi, and supporting emotional equilibrium. Mentally, the practice offers an opportunity to cultivate yin qualities of mind: receptivity, allowance, reflection, and tolerance in relationship to our experience. The development of these qualities leads to a quiet, calm state of being that happens independent of circumstances and is able to adapt to all conditions.
